Installing your NEW L&P Performance Idler Arm Brace:

NOTICE: Read through these instructions COMPLETELY first to make sure you understand everything that must be done. Follow ALL safety precautions! Use your common sense also; we cannot cover every situation here.

You may also either need or want to jack the truck up. Follow all the manufacturers cautions and instructions, included, but not limited to: using proper lifting points, and using jack stands. NEVER work under a vehicle supported only by a jack!

  1. Make sure your truck is on a HARD, LEVEL SURFACE.
  2. Block both rear tires, front and back, so truck cannot roll either direction.
  3. Set emergency brake. Be sure Automatic transmission is in “Park”, or in any gear in

manual transmission trucks.

4. You may need to remove the splashguard on the front of the truck. If you wish to do so, or figure it is necessary, do so now.

5. Insure that the idler arm, idler arm bushings, and idler arm spindle are all in good shape and unbent. If they are bent, or otherwise damaged, they will need to be replaced.

6. Loosen the nut that holds the idler arm to the idler arm spindle (17mm wrench/socket). Loosen and remove the two forward-most nuts securing the idler arm spindle to the frame (two 19mm wrenches/sockets needed… the bolts go through the frame). Use penetrating lubricant and be careful not to break old and rusty bolts, as they will likely be difficult to turn. Replace old bolts as necessary.

7. Remove the idler arm nut, and remove the large flat washer from the bottom side of the idler arm. The washer will NOT be reused with the brace. This is important!!!

8. Slide the idler arm off of the idler arm spindle. Grease the spindle and all surfaces of the idler arm bushings with liberal amounts of chassis grease at this time. Slide the idler arm back onto the idler arm spindle.

9. Install the brace over the threaded idler arm spindle first, then rotate it around and slide the 2 forward-most frame bolts through the idler arm brace. This can be slightly difficult and the bolts often will not easily line up and slide through. Take your time.

10. Install hand tight ALL 3 nuts you previously removed.

11. Tighten idler arm spindle nut FIRST!! Then, tighten the 2 forward-most IA nuts LAST. THIS STEP IS IMPORTANT!!!

12. Check all fasteners frequently! Re-torque all fasteners on a regular basis.
